InVideo directs, funds and supplies the tools for its own feature film, Beta Builder

Beta Builder began a live action shoot in Mumbai on Oct 29. The producers have not said how much of it will be generated, which models it uses or what it costs.

Beta Builder started shooting in Mumbai on Thursday, and the company that makes the software is also directing the film, helping to fund it and hosting the festival where it was announced.

Mayur More (Kota Factory) and Ashlesha Thakur (The Family Man) play the leads. The story follows Jai, a self-taught architect from Dharavi who can only build what he imagines inside a virtual reality world. The director, Hridaye Nagpal, is InVideo's global creative lead. InVideo bought his studio, GoBo Labs, on Feb 18, the same day it and Abundantia announced their slate at the India AI Film Festival, an event InVideo hosted.

Nagpal describes a live action shoot with AI "working side by side." That is the whole public description. No models, no share of generated footage and no budget for this film have been named. One outlet called it India's first gen AI hybrid feature. The producers did not make that claim, and the race for that label is already crowded.

The money needs its condition. The Rs 100 crore figure, about $10.5 million, covers a slate of five films over three years, not Beta Builder alone. Reports disagree on whether InVideo or the partnership puts it up, and the producers' own release calls the slate both three and five films.

The film is adapted from Sukriti YJ's novel Beta Builder: Mumbai In The Metaverse. None of the shoot day reports named her, and her credit on the film is still unstated.

Our take: vendors want to own the showcase. Independent AI filmmakers should take the money when it comes, and keep the credit, the cut and the method in writing.

InVideo is directing, funding and tooling its own feature film. Beta Builder starts shooting in Mumbai

Beta Builder, the first film from Abundantia aiON and InVideo, started shooting in Mumbai with Mayur More and Ashlesha Thakur and an InVideo executive directing. The producers describe live action and AI side by side but name no models, no AI share and no budget, and the India's first label came from one outlet, not them.

Jai is a self-taught architect from Dharavi, one of the most crowded neighborhoods in Mumbai, and the only place he gets to build what he imagines is a virtual-reality world. On Thursday 29 October his story started shooting for real, in Mumbai, with Mayur More and Ashlesha Thakur in the lead roles and cameras rolling on live action. The rest of the film, according to its producers, will come out of AI-driven production running alongside the shoot.

The film is Beta Builder, the first feature from a partnership between Abundantia Entertainment's AI division, Abundantia aiON, and the AI video company InVideo. Deadline broke the cast and the start of principal photography as an exclusive, and Bollywood Hungama carried the release text the same day. One outlet, Indian Television, headlined it as India's first gen-AI hybrid feature. The producers didn't make that claim, and nobody has defined what hybrid means on this set: no share of generated footage, no list of scenes and no named models. What is on the record is who sits in which chair, and that is the more interesting story.
