Kling joins Chroma Awards Season 2, but over half the listed prize cash needs a sponsor tool
The Chroma Awards headline says $450K+, but the prize pages list $366,250 in cash and 52% of it only goes to entries using a sponsor's tool. Prizes open to any tools total $119,500, and Kling's own pool is $11,000.
Kling announced on November 2 that it is a partner of Chroma Awards Season 2, with "$450K+ in cash prizes". Read the prize pages and the headline splits: the cash actually listed adds up to $366,250, and $191,750 of that, 52%, only goes to entries that use a sponsor's tool.
For creators that is the whole decision. Only $119,500 is genre prize money open to any tools, mostly $2,000 for first place, and sponsor awards stack on top if the film really used the tool and can prove it. Kling's own pool is $11,000, one of 27 tool sponsors, and about $87,000 of the headline total is travel perks with no stated value (our arithmetic, not the organizer's).
The contest is free to enter, entries are unlimited, and ten student fellowships pay $5,500 each toward a summer 2027 internship. Submissions close January 7, 2027, and Season 2 judges are still unnamed. The organizer's own first paragraph says January 1, so go by the FAQ date.
Our take: Chroma is a sponsor marketplace with a real festival inside it. Enter for the $119,500 judged on the work, and treat tool prizes as a bonus for work you already make with those tools.
