Noor's 30 second clip puts a woman in black at the center of a crowd of masked young men in school blazers, and it had us hooked right until the reveal landed at the very end.
For the first 19 seconds the soundtrack is little more than foley and movement, the small everyday sounds of a scene, and that near silence builds a great deal of tension. The color palette does just as much work: her skin tone and black dress stand out sharply against the rows of dark blazers and pale blue ski masks behind her. Then the music arrives and the whole crowd bows.
The one letdown is that the ski masks disappear at the exact moment of the payoff, which felt a little jarring. Otherwise this is a great artistic and performative piece with a beautiful sense of its own style. Made something in this spirit? Tag us so we can take a look.
