Pyona's Almost a Kiss turns a Harry Potter ballroom dance into a spellbinding short
Pyona's fan-made episode pairs choreographed dancing, sweeping shots and trails of light with a comic headbutt ending. The only quibble is the American accents in an otherwise British world.
A spellbinding take on an alternate Harry Potter universe, made for the current Potter and Malfoid trend. In Almost a Kiss, episode 9 of Pyona's fan-made series, Harry and Malfoid take the floor of a candlelit ballroom and the whole hall stops to watch.
The dance moves are beautifully choreographed, and sweeping shots circle the couple as trails of gold and green light follow every turn. The staging is just as carefully built, from the glowing stars overhead to the rows of guests in gowns. Character consistency is great too, right down to the onlookers, who stay the same people from shot to shot.
Then Harry leans in for a kiss, Malfoid headbutts him instead, and that bit of comedy at the end ties the whole thing off.
The only thing bothering our British editor's ears is the American accents, but that is what an alternate universe is for. A brilliant piece that deserves recognition for its craft.
