Runway now works inside ChatGPT on GPT-6 Astra: brief it, let it generate, give notes, all in one chat window

Runway's new ChatGPT plugin lets GPT-6 Astra brief and revise while Runway's models render, but every generation spends Runway credits and Astra in Chat is limited to Pro, Business and Enterprise plans.

Runway launched a plugin for ChatGPT on Oct 7, built around OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra. You install it from the plugins directory, pick Astra and mention Runway in the chat; Astra writes the brief, reads your product link or reference image and takes your notes, while Runway's models generate the images and video in the same conversation.

The plugin costs nothing to install, but every generation spends your Runway credits, so you still need a Runway account and a plan that covers the models you ask for. Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1 and Gen-4.5 are on Runway's list, and Astra can choose one for you.

Access is narrower than the launch film suggests. OpenAI's help center puts Astra in Chat on Pro, Business and Enterprise, gives Plus users Astra in Work and Codex instead, and enterprise admins have to switch it on.

In practice, the director's chair moves into the chat window and the video model becomes a service the assistant calls, so the brief and the notes you write there now matter as much as the model you pick.

An AI video company shipped a free Premiere clone built with Claude. Its own roadmap says it's half ready

ArtCraft CEO Brandon Thomas built FilmCraft, a free open-source editor modeled on Premiere, with Claude in a matter of days. Its own roadmap says it is about half ready, with no plugins and untested Avid handoff. The real novelty for creators is that 650 commands let an AI agent cut, grade and export.

Late on Thursday 1 October, Brandon Thomas, the CEO of the AI image and video studio ArtCraft, left a comment on Hacker News that has since traveled a long way: "Software is over. But for real. I just one-shotted Photoshop. The whole thing." Within a week his company had put seven free, open-source desktop apps on GitHub that copy the look, panels and shortcuts of Adobe's suite, and one of them, FilmCraft, is a video editor built to feel like Premiere Pro.

Thomas says he built them in Rust with Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5, which came out on 22 September, and the code backs him up. Of the last 100 commits to FilmCraft, 48 carry a Claude trailer, and the README says its own screenshots and grades were made "by an agent driving the running app." The apps are dual-licensed MIT or Apache 2.0, so anyone can use, change and redistribute the code, although the ArtCraft name and logos are excluded.
