'The Gifted' by Jeff Synthesized wins the Future Vision XPRIZE
Jeff Synthesized's The Gifted won the Future Vision XPRIZE from more than 2,500 entries, but most of the prize is a $2.5M equity investment in a feature still to be made, and the tools and equity terms are undisclosed.
The Gifted, a trailer and treatment by Jeff Synthesized, won the grand prize at the Future Vision XPRIZE in Los Angeles on 25 September, chosen from more than 2,500 entries. A boy rebuilds his late mother from her texts, voice and diary, and what wakes up never gives an order; she only asks.
Read the prize terms before the headline number. XPRIZE says The Gifted receives $100,000 in cash for screenplay development and $2.5 million as an equity investment toward the full-length feature, with Range Media Partners and Google's 100 ZEROS initiative supporting development and production. Republic Film will also open a public campaign so fans can invest in the film, and the same trailer won the audience award decided by public vote.
Jeff Synthesized is the working name of Jeff T. Thomas, an LA director of commercials and series television, and the trailer carries the logo of NeoCinema, the AI film studio he cofounded. Neither XPRIZE nor Google has named the tools behind it, and the equity terms have not been published.
In practice, most of the money in this prize is a stake in a feature that still has to be made with partners, not a payout. Before you enter a sponsored trailer contest, check whether the top prize is cash or equity in your film.
