An 8-minute solo AI short, start to finish on Seedance 2.5
CANDY, an 8:59 AI short by DiDi_OK, went viral as a one-person film. BytePlus posted it as a paid partnership, the director writes in the plural, and no crew or tool list has been published.
CANDY, an 8:59 sci-fi short by DiDi_OK (Jiaze Li on the festival circuit), is circulating on X as proof that one person can now finish a real movie on Dreamina Seedance 2.5. The runtime checks out on both the director's post and BytePlus's own. The rest of that framing came from a quote post, not from anyone who made the film.
BytePlus, which sells ByteDance's models to businesses, posted CANDY on Sep 10 under X's Paid partnership label, and the director thanked it for the collaboration. He writes in the plural throughout ("our bet", "we made an AI film"), and no crew or tool list has been published, so we are not printing a headcount either way. He has also gone longer this year, with an 11:53 piece in July and an 11:16 film in April, both made on a mix of tools.
None of that makes CANDY weak work. Jiaze Li won the Reply AI Studios Grand Prix in Venice on Sep 6, and the film's faux-news vignettes are a smart craft answer to short clips. Seedance 2.5 generates up to 30 seconds per pass, so by our count 8:59 is at least 18 kept generations cut together.
In practice, long AI work is an edit of short takes. Build the character sheet before you generate anything, and budget your time for cuts, sound and continuity rather than one heroic run.
