DNEG's AI arm Brahma raises $150M at a $2B valuation
Prime Focus says the round values Brahma AI at $2 billion, but film is only one of its four target markets and no DNEG production has been named as a user of its tools.
Brahma AI, the AI company built inside DNEG's parent group, has raised $150 million in preferred shares, $100 million of it from Indian investor Multiples. Prime Focus, which owns DNEG, told Indian stock exchanges on 23 September that the round values Brahma at $2 billion post-money and that it keeps about 66% through DNEG.
Brahma combines Metaphysic's digital humans and voice localization with Prime Focus Technologies' CLEAR media asset software. Its named anchor customers are Warner Bros, the NBA and Mayo Clinic, and film is one of four target markets alongside sports, healthcare and advertising. DNEG now appears as a distribution partner, and neither company has said which DNEG productions use Brahma's tools.
What this means for AI creators: the high end of the market is pricing digital humans, dubbing and archive management as the business rather than a video model of its own, and Brahma says it will stay model agnostic, meaning it plugs in other companies' models. The next concrete step is interactive digital humans, which CEO Prabhu Narasimhan says are close to launch.
