MANSA's AI zombie series credits no actors and is pitched as a live-action pilot
MANSA put a 30-episode AI zombie microdrama on its app with no person credited. The claim that it tests demand before live action rests on one outlet's paraphrase of Nate Parker.
Where a cast would normally sit, the title page for They Left Us to Die lists one name: Imani Cross, the show's lead character. The director credit reads "Mansa studio," and no person who worked on the 30-episode zombie thriller is named anywhere on it.
MANSA, the studio and streaming platform co-founded by David Oyelowo and Nate Parker, premiered the series on Oct 30 on its app and on TikTok Minis. Blex Media, the only outlet to report it, says the characters and settings were made with generative AI and that professional editors worked on every episode. The page's own data puts the episodes at 67 to 211 seconds each, about 65 minutes in all.
The reason given needs a careful read. Blex reports that Parker framed the show as a test: build the story world with AI, prove to financiers that viewers want it, then commit to live action. That reaches us only as Blex's paraphrase, with no direct quote and no MANSA statement behind it.
It also sits awkwardly beside what the founders said a month ago. At TheWrap's TheGrill conference, Oyelowo called microdramas "a fiscally responsible, possible and plausible way to put people to work to cultivate talent," and MANSA put its live-action vertical budgets at $100,000 to $250,000. An AI pilot runs the same market test without the cast those budgets paid for.
A studio with Hollywood founders paying for an AI series as a step toward live action is the job many AI filmmakers pitch for. The open questions are the deal terms: whose name goes on the title page, and which audience numbers count as proof. MANSA has published no viewing figures for this show and has not named its tools or its budget.
Our take: testing a story's audience with AI is a defensible idea. Leaving the people who made it off the credits is not.
