Runway is now inside DaVinci Resolve

Runway's free plugin brings generate and restyle into the DaVinci Resolve timeline, but it only runs on the paid Resolve Studio 19 or later and needs a paid Runway plan.

Runway has released a plugin for DaVinci Resolve, 15 days after it put the same panel inside Premiere Pro and After Effects. From Resolve's Workflow Integrations menu you can generate images and video, restyle the clip under the playhead with Aleph 2.0, and send every result straight to the Media Pool and onto the timeline.

The restyle tool is the part editors will reach for most. Park the playhead or set in and out points, adjust the anchor frames or up to five keyframes, and Runway re-renders the clip at its original duration, ready to sit above the original for comparison. The panel shows your credit balance and the cost of each generation before you run it.

The limits sit in the fine print. The plugin requires DaVinci Resolve Studio 19 or later, the $295 paid edition, so the free Resolve that many indie filmmakers start on is not supported, and generating needs a paid Runway plan. Runway's post on X also says it can upscale, a feature its Resolve announcement does not list, although the Adobe version does offer it.

In practice, if you already cut in Studio, a generated insert or a restyled shot can now be judged against the footage around it without the export, upload, download and re-import loop.

The week your edit suite got an operator

Runway and Adobe put generation inside Premiere and After Effects, and Resolve now exposes itself to outside agents. Every feature is beta or a weekend demo, so the real choice for editors is which bet their workflow has made and what each attempt costs.

Runway's new Adobe plugin puts a panel inside Premiere Pro and After Effects, where you can generate images and video, restyle footage already sitting on your timeline, and drop the result into the comp without exporting anything. Adobe shipped its own IBC release the same day, putting a generative layer directly on the Premiere timeline and an AI Assistant into After Effects that takes plain instructions, both in public beta. Blackmagic then updated DaVinci Resolve to 21.1 with a native MCP server, which lets an external assistant like Claude or ChatGPT Codex drive the application by typing what you want. Three of the biggest names in post production moved the same lever inside one week, and none of them announced a better model.

What changed is where the software sits relative to you. For two years the generative step lived in a browser tab: describe, wait, download, import, conform, repeat. That round trip was the tax, and it fell heaviest on the work that benefits most from iteration, the fourteenth version of a shot rather than the first. Removing it does not make the models better, it makes the loop short enough that you would actually run it twice.
