The AI studio behind India's Mahabharat series takes its tools to Indonesian mythology
Galleri5, which ran the AI production on Mahabharat: Ek Dharmayudh, will help develop films and series from Indonesian myths with local writers. The first project is still a working title, and no budget, distributor or date has been named.
Galleri5 built and ran the AI production behind Mahabharat: Ek Dharmayudh, the JioHotstar and Star Plus retelling of the Indian epic. Now its tools are heading to Indonesia, to make films and series from that country's own myths and history.
The deal, first reported by Variety, joins Galleri5 with Historyverse, the studio arm of its sister company Collective Artists Network, and the Singhasari Special Economic Zone, a government-backed business zone in East Java. Indonesian writers and cultural specialists will develop projects with Historyverse's team on Galleri5's platform, which the company says brings more than 200 AI models together with tools for storyboards, characters, animation and effects.
The first project under discussion is Echoes of Nusantara, a working title for an original mythology adventure. Historyverse will run development and production and package the projects for possible financing and distribution outside Indonesia. Singhasari's job is to introduce the venture to local creators, studios, investors and distributors.
The bet is that one AI production setup can travel, and that tools built for an Indian epic can carry another country's stories. Indonesia is a natural first stop: Mahabharata and Ramayana tales have lived in its temple carvings and wayang puppet theater for more than a thousand years, as India's ambassador pointed out. Still unsaid are the budget, who pays, who distributes and when anything ships. For now, "working title" and "possible financing" carry a lot of weight.
